We recommend that you fly in to Brussels Airport, situated in Zaventem, between Leuven and Brussels. Travelling to and from this airport is easy by train, bus, car or taxi
There are however a number of alternative regional airports that could be suitable, including most notably Brussels South Charleroi Airport, located in Charleroi.
Leuven is situated on the major Oostende-Brussel-Leuven-Liège-Köln axis and is located near the junction of two important motorways: E 40 and E 314.
Parking is difficult in central Leuven. In order to make optimal use of the existing parking spots, the city has introduced time limits by means of parking machines and blue-zone rules. Exceptions are only made for inhabitants of the neighbourhood and disabled persons.
Visitors are advised to use the public car-parks or private garages. It is about an 8-minute walk from the parking garages to the city centre.
There is also P+Bus parking. If you park on the edge of the shopping centre, in the car park of De Bond and on the Sint-Jacobsplein, you can take the bus to the city centre and back free of charge.
Leuven is an important hub in the Belgian railway network. From Leuven station, there are connections to every other major Belgian train station. From the Brussels stations (Leuven - Brussels = 20 minute journey) there are various international connections.
The train station is conveniently situated at the edge of the city centre. Most university buildings in the centre of the city are situated at an acceptable walking distance from the railway station (max. 2 km); all buses in and around Leuven stop at the railway station and pass through the city centre.
